Dog walkers to turn detective in Tandridge

Dog walkers do their business in the South East...

DOG walkers are being asked to play detective in a new crime fighting scheme.

Dog Walker Watch, supported by the Tandridge Community Safety Partnership, encourages pet owners to report any suspicious or anti-social behaviour they see when they are out walking.

Organisers say the aim of the project, the latest addition to "Watch Schemes" already in place, is to create a partnership between the local community, police and district council.

Tandridge neighbourhood Inspector Elaine Burtenshaw said: "We are not asking people to put themselves at risk, we are asking them to report any suspicious or anti-social behaviour to reduce crime in the district."

The scheme will be officially launched at the RSPCA Animal Centre in South Godstone at noon on Sunday September 13.

Tandridge District Council's community safety manager Hilary New said: "We know how successful Watch Schemes are in helping develop a sense of community and encouraging residents to report anything they consider suspicious. We hope as many dog owners as possible will join and work with us."
