Strictly Come Dancing star Ricky Groves hands award to Milton Keynes wardens
The glittering annual Pride in Milton Keynes Awards ceremony took place on the evening of 1st December 2009 at the MK Dons Stadium.
This is the 5th year that the awards have been staged and Milton Keynes Council Safer Communities Wardens Rob Harriman and Tony Jeffs were nominated in two of the award categories by a group of residents from the Greenleys area of the City.
Rob and Tony have been involved with the residents who were victims of anti social behaviour for a number of months and were honoured to have been nominated for the awards for what they see as doing their job.
That job involved getting a lot of partner agencies together to come up with an action plan to try to resolve the issues, having meeting with the residents, local councillors and Thames Valley Police. The meetings were largely in the evenings but Tony and Rob did not hesitate to work late to help even after a full day on duty.
Their hard work and dedication and the fact that they were prepared to put themselves out to help the residents was recognised by the judging panel and in the category of Making a Difference on our Streets Tony and Rob were the outright winners and were runners up in the Making Milton Keynes a Safer Place category being awarded Highly Commended
Rob and Tony received their awards from ex Eastenders actor and Strictly Come Dancing star Ricky Groves to rapturous applause from a lot of their colleagues in the audience.
Rob Lawrence, Safer Communities Unit Warden Manager said “I am delighted for both Rob and Tony. I know how much work they both put into this problem and it is a testament to the esteem in which they are held by the residents in Greenleys that they were nominated. I am glad they got the recognition that they deserve for a job very well done”
