People of Westborough get on their bikes

People turned out in droves to attend the Community Bike Clinic event held in Fairfield Rise, Westborough (on Thursday 18 February) and enjoy the chance to gain free hands on bike maintenance and repair training.

Despite the rain more than 100 people from Westborough attended and children and parents of all ages enjoyed the opportunity of taking part in the extra activities laid on which included Guildford HEAT basketball, arts and crafts, face painting, hot drinks and snacks and pick up some local recycling information at the same time.

Staff and volunteers from a host of organisations including: the Barn Youth Project, Guildford Heat Basketball team, Windsor Housing Association, the Local Neighbourhood Police Team, Surrey County Council, members of Westborough URC Church and Guildford Borough Council Community Safety Wardens, Richard Musgrove and Tracy James, worked hard to make the event such a success.

Tracy James, Community Safety Warden said: “It was an amazing day.  Despite the rain about 80-100 people including children, families and local residents supported the day.  A huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather to have their bikes looked at as well as the opportunity to find about more about local services, groups, clubs and opportunities in the local area”.

She added: “You always know it’s been a great success when the people leaving ask when is the next one going to be? “
